About The Pocket Dream

A Lichfield Garrick Production

When disaster strikes a David Garrick Strolling Players production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, who will step forward to save the day? Enter a motley crew of makeshift mechanicals, setting aside backstage dramas to play multiple roles and keep the show on the road. What could possibly go wrong?!

The Pocket Dream will be directed by the theatre’s Artistic Director, Daniel Buckroyd, who saw the original West End production in 1991 and can’t wait to share the fun with Lichfield audiences this spring. Garrick Panto legends Sam Rabone and Ben Thornton return for this production with new kid on the block, Jack and the Beanstalk baddie, Joe Feeney. Completing the cast are Tricia Adele-Turner, star of multiple West End musicals, Sarah Twomey who’s performed at the RSC and recently featured in Paddington in Peru, and comedy legend Arthur Bostrom, best known for his iconic role in TV’s ‘Allo ‘Allo.

Sandi Toksvig is a writer, comedian & presenter, perhaps best known as host of QI, The News Quiz and The Great British Bake Off. Elly Brewer is a stage and TV writer, whose credits include the BAFTA-winning The Dumping Ground and Tracy Beaker.

This hilarious show takes Shakespeare’s brilliant comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream and wraps it in another comedy about a production that’s going hilariously wrong. Two comedies ‘for the price of one’, and for any fans of The Play That Goes Wrong or Noises Off, an evening that’s sure to delight!

The Pocket Dream was first performed by the Nottingham Playhouse in 1991.
