The Garrick Theatre team is saddened to learn that Cannock Chase Council are proposing to close the Prince of Wales Theatre next year, due to budget pressures.
We know just how much impact a thriving theatre can have on a district, promoting cultural opportunities for residents, encouraging visitors and helping foster a sense of place. We also know that the wider cultural ecosystem of the region is built on having a network of venues and organisations, like the Garrick and Prince of Wales, so the loss of any theatre will be felt both locally and regionally.
Our thoughts are with our colleagues in Cannock at this difficult time and we stand ready to offer help in any way that we can. We need local, regional and national policymakers to halt the loss of much-loved venues, such as the Prince of Wales, serving communities outside the UK’s main metropolitan centres.
