Lichfield Garrick Presents Elly Brewer & Sandi Toksvig’s The Pocket Dream

Lichfield Garrick Theatre will be bringing The Pocket Dream by Elly Brewer and Sandi Toksvig, to life in April 2025! This hilarious re-working of Shakespeare’s most popular comedy is the theatre’s next in-house production following Farm Boy, earlier this year.

The production will be directed by the theatre’s Artistic Director, Daniel Buckroyd, who still remembers laughing his socks off at the original West End production in 1991 and can’t wait to share the fun with audiences today.

The Garrick recently announced that panto favourites, Sam Rabone and Ben Thornton will be leading the company, with further casting to be announced.

This side-splitting, accessible reimagining of A Midsummer Night’s Dream promises to have audiences rolling in the aisles (and possibly the Bard turning in his grave).

Daniel Buckroyd says –

“We love hosting the very best touring theatre, music and comedy at the Garrick, but there’s nothing quite like producing shows ourselves; a chance for our multi-talented team of theatre-makers to take centre stage and for local audiences to enjoy a production that’s been made right here in Lichfield. Farm Boy went so well in our Studio that we’ve decided to produce our next new show in our Main Theatre. The Pocket Dream has everything you could ever want in a night out at the theatre – drama, romance, theatrical tricks-a-plenty and LOTS of laughs - and that’s before Sam Rabone and Ben Thornton get involved! It promises to be huge fun and we can’t wait to get into the rehearsal room to bring Sandi & Elly’s script to life and share it with our audiences.”

Alongside the professional cast of six, this show will feature an ensemble of young actors and dancers aged 14-18 years old. If you fancy appearing in a full-scale production at the Garrick, this may be just the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. The theatre will be announcing more details about auditions soon, but you can register your interest now by visiting lgtl.ink/TPDRegister.

The Garrick team are looking forward to welcoming audiences of all ages to the theatre for an unforgettable mix of Shakespeare, slapstick, romance, flying, song and dance.
